Many times people call us and ask about the advantages between polycarbonate covers vs. metal covers. As we've talked through this many times, it has become apparent to us that polycarbonate covers win out.
Here are the benefits of polycarbonate covers:
- Clear - they allow maximum light into your basement
- Solid - they keep almost all water and debris out of your well
- Light - easily removable in the event of an emergency escape
- Attractive - not the prison look
- Strong - will support 500# static weight
- Low maintenance - never rust
- Can appear to be more secure
- Will not scratch - Suggested for a dog run or where they might get a lot of foot traffic
Colorado Custom Window Wells sells only the polycarbonate covers. Our covers are fabricated in a "cover" factory located in Denver. We come to your home and take specific measurements to have your covers custom fabricated. The factory uses automated computer controlled routing equipment to cut the covers to precision measurements. We then return to your home to install the covers with precision fit.
We offer several different types of covers. They include:
- Economy - These are very nice covers and sit flat on your well. They are attached using spring clips. This is the type of cover most of our competitors offer.
- Low Profile - Our low profile covers are by far our biggest seller. The advantages of this cover is they are sloped for drainage. They have a back flange that stops the blowing rain from going into the well. Because they sit on a 2" back bar they have some amount of ventilation to allow your well to breath. If you open your windows you get some amount of air flow.
- Patio Covers - They are specially designed to work on patios. They are flat so there is nothing to trip over. They also have an extra mullion in them so they are a bit stronger in the event that a big person should fall on them.
- Casement Window Covers - These covers are designed to work on wells where the top of your window is higher than the top of your well, and your window swings open rather than slides.
- Lean To Covers - These are designed where the top of your window is higher than the top of your well. This cover is hinged above the window and slopes to sit on the front of your well. They have sides to fully encase the well.
- Over-Sized Low Profile - Some homes have large rectangular concrete wells. We build these covers in such a way that only a part of the cover lifts up for egress. This keep the "hatch" lid light in the event a small person needs to escape.
